Toyota Coffee Cup Warning: You may have noticed the “Coffee Cup Warning”, symbol on your dashboard if you own a Toyota model that is newer. This feature is part the Intelligent Mobility package, which offers high levels of active security for customers.

The system learns your driving style and adjusts to it. The coffee cup will light up and sound a chime if it detects unusual steering events or steering corrections.

Drowsy driving

Drowsy Driving is a problem that often leads to serious accidents. Lack of sleep puts drivers at greater risk for a collision because they react slower and notice road hazards less.

Sway Warning

The coffee cup icon will appear in your multi-information display when the system detects that you are driving in a way it considers to be drowsy. You should stop driving. You are not required to follow this advice, but it’s better to be safe rather than sorry.

This function is part of the Lane Departure Warning System and will alert you if your vehicle is moving out of its lane. The warning is triggered when the Alpha_crit reported in the Sway Review Tables is lower than the value allowed for the selected analysis type under Design ribbon > Analysis Menu > Sway.

The system can be activated when the steering wheel is turned and the vehicle moves more than usual. The feature can be activated even if you lose control of your vehicle while driving on the road. Sway Warning can be tailored to your driving style by adjusting the sensitivity in the LDA menu on the multi-information screen.

This feature can be disabled, but you will still receive an alert if you drive for more than three hours continuously. It is difficult to tell when you are getting tired and your judgment may be impaired.

Lane Tracing Assistance

The system will monitor the road to detect lane markings, and also your vehicle’s position within that lane. As you drive, the car learns about you and displays a coffee cup icon on your screen if you start to drift from your lane. The car will also suggest that you take a short break by giving an audible warning. The system will apply brakes automatically if you have cruise control enabled to prevent your vehicle from drifting.

Remember that technology cannot replace good driving. It is up to you, regardless of the features in your Toyota, to be attentive to the road and to make the best possible decisions.

There are different systems that have different warning standards. However, the most common is based on driving for three hours non-stop or when the vehicle starts to move on the road. It’s not mandatory to listen to the alerts. But it is better to be safe rather than sorry. It’s important to be safe, especially when it concerns the safety of loved ones.

Lane Departure Assistance
